Welcome volunteers!

Friends of the Garden of Oz, aka Friends of the Garden, aka F.O.G. –  is so HAPPY that you’ve chosen to help support and maintain the NEW learning and imagination garden at Celina Elementary School. Here’s an update and a little taste of what’s to come ….

Garden construction is coming to an end, and the time to PLANT is near! We have designated the first two weekends in October as planting time.

Mark your calendars and recruit friends and relatives to join us. The exact hours have not been determined, but we are tentatively scheduling Oct. 1 & 2, and Oct. 8 & 9 – as days to bring LIFE to our garden! We expect ALL of you to participate in this important phase.

Landscape designers have determined the types and locations of plants, but it will be up to us to provide a large portion of the plants and physically place them in their new homes. A complete list of plants will be coming to you in the next few days, so be thinking about what might be transplanted from your garden, or those you know . . . or donated as another part of ‘your hand’ in preparing the garden for students.

If you are a parent of a CES student, there will be one more membership-drive ‘push’ next week, when we’ll be sending FOG application letters home with each student. ENCOURAGE your friends, family, neighbors, and parents to become involved – this is a BIG undertaking!

Two other important dates coming up next month –

  •  Wednesday, October 19 – VIP Garden Preview – just for teachers & staff
  •  Saturday, October 22 – Garden of Oz Grand-Opening, open to the public from noon – 1 pm

Friends of the Garden, under the auspices of the Celina Garden of Oz, a 501(c)(3) corporation, will provide a collaborative and interactive environment for observation, investigation and active hands-on learning.  With the Celina Garden Club, teachers, parents and the community, we will empower children to love learning and embrace nature.  Our outdoor classroom will foster curiosity and imagination while preparing our students for success with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.
